Breeding and Improvement of Paulownia

251 ha
of clonal test plantation and 253 ha of demonstrative plantation and 80 ha of nursery extension of superior clones have been established since 1983 when the national key project and IDRC project were started. More than 2000 plus trees of paulownia are selected from 100 counties within 18 provinces. The various gene pools are set up in Anhui, Sichuan, Guizhou and Shandong provinces. Dialled crossing between four species with four plus trees in each is carried out. So far, more than 30 superior clones suitable for different climates were selected and bred, including PH01, PS01, C001, C161, C020, C125, TF33, PS02, SP01, SP02, ST70, ST19, C003 etc.
